The Asia-Pacific region is a core market for Airbus and its divisions. Today the region accounts for almost a third of the European manufacturer’s total order book and a third of its revenues.

Commercial Aircraft

Over the last 50 years, Airbus aircraft have become a mainstay of airline fleets across Asia and the Pacific. Today there are over 4,000 Airbus aircraft in the fleets of more than 100 operators across Asia and the Pacific. Meanwhile, over 2,000 aircraft are scheduled for future delivery, representing 30% of the company's backlog. 

The full range of products is represented in the region's fleets, from the 100 seat A220 to the double deck A380. 

The region has been a key source of demand for Airbus widebody products since the company's inception. Today the  latest generation A350 is  firmly established as the long range aircraft of choice for carriers in the region, flying with 17 airlines.

Helicopters

More than 2,000 Airbus helicopters operate in Asia and the Pacific, making the company a key supplier of rotorcraft to the region’s military, civil and para-public operators. The company’s complete in-production product line is flying in the region, including the all-new H160.

Defence

Over 150 Airbus light and medium tactical aircraft (C212, CN235 and C295) are in service in the region. These are operated by military services, as well as government and civil agencies  and are deployed on transport search and rescue, maritime patrol and rain-making missions.

The A330 MRTT (multi-role tanker transport) has proven to be especially suitable for forces in the region with its long range capability and versatility. Operators in the region currently include The Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF), Republic of Singapore Air Force and Republic of Korea Air Force.

Space

Airbus is a reliable partner to the space ecosystem in the region, building and launching satellites for countries including Australia, India, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, South Korea, Thailand, and Vietnam.

Airbus also provides military satellite communication services via the Skynet 5 fleet of satellites. as well as providing  border surveillance and management systems and  Earth observation satellite imagery.

Industrial presence

 

Beyond its commercial success, Airbus also has an extensive operational presence and a wide range of industrial partnerships in the region, with more than 600 companies in 15 countries supplying parts for Airbus aircraft. 

The company’s industrial presence includes an A320 Family final assembly line (FAL) and a widebody completion and delivery centre in Tianjin, China, In addition, the foundations are being laid in Gujarat in India for a new FAL for the C295 military transport aircraft. 

Airbus also has commercial aircraft engineering centres in Beijing and Bengaluru, as well as training centres in Beijing, Singapore  and Gurugram near New Delhi.

Airbus Helicopters also has extensive operations in the region, including completion, delivery and MRO facilities in Malaysia, an MRO and training facility in Japan, MRO facilities in Australia and New Zealand, as well as a final assembly line in China.

Altogether Airbus employs over 7,000 people in the region, primarily in commercial and skilled technical support functions.

Stakeholders across the Asia-Pacific region are recognising the need to take a key role in  ensuring a sustainable future for our industry. This has seen Airbus create a number of new partnerships in the region, including to study the increased use of sustainable aviation fuels and the creation of hydrogen hubs enabling the introduction of zero emission aircraft.

Organisations in Australia, China, India, Japan, New Zealand, Singapore and South Korea have already signed up to work with Airbus on various projects, with many more agreements currently under discussion.
